The Four Corners 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb is the 2nd annual event held by the Farmington Professional Firefighters Association (Local 2850 of the IAFF), and the Farmington, NM Fire Department. In this event, participants will climb 2200 steps. This symbolizes the 110 stories of the World Trade Center climbed by the brave men and women of the FDNY. 343 of those firefighters perished during the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
With the help of the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, and these stair climb events, we are able to memorialize the loss of those attacks, as well as supporting families across the nation who lose loved ones in the line of duty. The NFFF is able to use the monies raised to help families attend the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial in Emmitsburg, MD, where there loved ones will be honored for the ultimate sacrifice. Farmington Fire Department holds this mission by the NFFF dearly, as our own family felt the loss ourselves. Lt. Jacob Shadd Rohwer of the Farmington Fire Department lost his battle with cancer January 11, 2018, after 19 years of dedicated service. His passing was deemed a line of duty death...the first line of duty death experienced by the Farmington Fire Department.
This year's Four Corners 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb is close to our hearts as a portion of the money raised will be helping Lt. Shadd Rohwer's mother visit the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial this year to honor her sons sacrifice.
Please join local first responders and the four corners community as we hope to make this event a huge success!
